The Pioneer MTB race, Sa Calobra climb, the fantastic Adventureman and the mountain film Redemption on HorizonSports this week.

Stage Three

The Pioneer 2018

This 7 day mountain bike stage race takes riders through New Zealand’s pristine Southern Alps, linking together over 500km of spectacular trails and challenging single-track, in a stunning part of the world where soaring mountain peaks, crystal-clear blue lakes, and golden high country await.  The journey will allow competitors to challenge themselves in and amongst awe-inspiring scenery.  At the end of each day, local New Zealand hospitality will extend the event into a genuine Kiwi experience.

Adventureman

Since 2012 Jamie McDonald is cycling or running to raise funds for Childrens hospitals. In 2014 he ran 5,000 miles across Canada from the Atlantic coast to the Pacific coast without the aid of a support crew. He battled -40°C temperatures, the Rockies, a frostbitten nose, numerous potentially challenge-stopping injuries and more to finish in Vancouver, running the equivalent of a marathon most days – whilst wearing a Superhero costume. He is the Adventureman ! Jamie is currently running 6,000 miles across 19 states in the USA from East to West. This represents 210 marathons. Sa Calobra
Four Swedish friends climb the Sa Calobra not on bike but on rollerskis ! The Sa Calobra climb is one of the main reasons why cyclists come to Mallorca. With about 7% average gradient and 9.5 km of climbing, Sa Calobra is an extraordinary climb. Even if they have a strong cross country ski experience in tough races such as the Vasaloppet, our friends will suffer all along the emblematic 26 hairpin bends trying to enjoy breathtaking views that have captured the hearts of many cyclists.
Film : Redemption – The James Pearson Story
This film tells the controversial story of one of the World’s best trad climbers, Englandʼs James Pearson. After a dramatic rise to become one of the top climbers in the UK, controversy surrounding the grading of his routes left him feeling ostracised from the climbing scene. The film tells James’ story and follows his return to the UK as he faces his demons and looks to redeem his place within the UK climbing community.
Directed by Chris Prescott and Paul Diffley.
